Ibobi offers talks to militant outfits

IMPHAL, March 7 � A day after Congress retained power for a hat trick, Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh today sought cooperation from all communities for progress of the State.

He also appealed to the underground groups in the State for a talk or dialogue to bring about an amicable solution.

�Our doors are open for it (dialogue) as violence cannot bring solution to the problem�, said Ibobi while addressing a reception held for the newly- elected Congress candidates at the Congress Bhavan here today.

Stating that success of a number of Congress candidates in the election is a clear support given by both the valley and hill dwellers in the State, he assured that the party would definitely work out development programmes including power, water, connectivity, health, etc., in the days to come.

�We are given the responsibility for the people. So we should not ignore the responsibilities,� the 64-year-old Congress leader added. Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee President Gaikhangam, AICC North East in-charge Luzinho Faleiro, Assam Health Minister Hemanta Biswa Sarma, Power Minister Phunzathang Tonsing also spoke at the reception.

Congratulating the people of Manipur for electing Congress candidates in the election in spite of threats and intimidations, Faleiro said that the people of Manipur have showed love and affection to the Congress.

Meanwhile, Manipur People�s Party and BJP State unit held election review meetings to discuss the reason behind their defeat in the election.
