IMPHAL, Aug 8 - Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh on Saturday called on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Minister of Home Affairs Rajnath Singh in connection with the Naga Peace Accord, according to Manipur Information Centre (MIC), New Delhi sources.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the Manipur Chief Minister at the former�s 7 Race Course residence in the national capital at 1.20 pm and informed that everything would be discussed with the state governments concerned before finalisation of the accord.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister also placed before the Centre the existing Acts namely Manipur (Village Authority in Hill Areas) Act 1956; Manipur Land Revenues and Land Reforms Act 1960; Manipur ( Hill Areas) District Council Act 1971 and Manipur Legislative Committee( Hill Areas Committee) Order 1972 passed by the Parliament for administration of the hill areas in Manipur, protection of customary laws, legislative protection to the interests of hill areas and prevention of tribal land alienation, MIC source added.
Earlier in the morning around 11.20 am the Chief Minister also had a meeting with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh at 17 Akbar Road in New Delhi. The interlocutor of Naga peace talks RN Ravi also attended the meeting.
In the meeting, the Chief Minister demanded a copy of the Naga peace accord from the Union Home Minister. He informed the Union Home Minister that the people of Manipur were anxious to know the details of the Naga Peace Accord as they had the apprehension that it would affect the territorial integrity of the state of Manipur.
In his reply, Rajnath Singh said that the accord was just a framework. It would not affect the territorial boundary of the neighbouring states of Nagaland. He further stated that the Government of India would invite the state governments for discussion while working out the final shape of the accord.
On Friday, Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur Gaikhan-gam maintained that the Central government should not invite multiple problems while solving a problem. Gaikhan-gam who holds the home portfolio was referring to the Naga peace accord signed between the NDA government and NSCN-IM in New Delhi on August 3. He said his party as well as Manipur government will not accept any agreement of accord that will disturb the territorial integrity of the state.
