Human trafficking bid in State

GUWAHATI, Oct 6 � Assam Police has received inputs on human trafficking rackets making desperate attempts to start their activities in the State during the ongoing festive season, an Assam Police official said. The official informed that attempts are also being made by traffickers to supply young girls to various parts of the country from the State. �As per information available with us, certain groups involved in this trade have been placed huge demand of young girls to force them into prostitution during festive season. We have intensified our vigil, especially in the remote areas,� the police official said. �The local thanas and the NGOs have also been put on alert and asked to track the movement of any suspicious movement in their locality,� he stated, adding that most of girls are lured by pimps or middleman in the name of job. Accordingly, alert has also been sounded in Guwahati, especially in railway stations and bus terminus. The State, it may be mentioned, has witnessed a sharp rise in the number of people who have either been trafficked or missing.
