Huge cache of arms seized, one arrested

GUWAHATI, Nov 3 � A Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) Inspector was arrested along with a huge cache of arms and ammunition from a train en route to Kolkata at the Guwahati railway station last night.

The RPSF Inspector, Kanwaldeep Singh Sidhu, was arrested from the Jan Satabdi Express around 10:30 last night during a routine checking after the train�s route ended at Guwahati, Railway Police Force (RPF) sources said, adding Sidhu�s involvement with arms smuggling racket is being probed.

Sidhu had boarded the train at Lumding and was scheduled to board another train to Kolkata from Guwahati.

He is an Inspector with the 4th�battalion of the RPSF, posted at New Jalpaiguri.

RPF seized three bags from Sidhu, which included a cache of arms and ammunition, which included three 9 mm pistols, made in Italy, Belgium and Austria. Moreover, 30 rounds of ammunition of AK 47 rifle, 50 rounds of 303 rifle ammunition, seven rounds of 9 mm pistol ammunition, four magazine and a dagger were also found in his possession.

Five mobile phone handsets and 12 SIM cards were also seized from him.
