HSLC answersheet episode: Official inquiry instituted

By Correspondent

GOALPARA, April 8 Official inquiry has already been instituted by the district administration to look into what could be termed as gross negligence of the officials at the zonal evaluation centre at the PR Govt High School, Goalpara where a cow feasted on some answersheets of the just concluded High School Leaving Certificate(HSLC) Examination, kept in a strong room.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity,an offical revealed after preliminary investigation that altogether around 30 to 40 evaluated answer sheets were partially damaged and the marks have already been registered. He also said that at this age of Right to Information Act, no facts can be suppressed, but an answer remains elusive to the question as to how will the answersheets be evaluated if the situation requires so? The main focus of the enquiry is basically to fix the responsibility as to where things went wrong and to plug the loopholes so that such ugly incidents do not recur in future. Meanwhile the findings also revealed that there was gross negligence of SEBAs guidelines for arrangements under Zonal Evaluation Centres during the time of incident where only one chowkidar was looking after the strong room contravening the SEBA guidelines of having three daytime chowkidars and two nighttime chowkidars to guard the place.

A case has already been registered with the police and already an inquiry has been instituted under an ADC to look in to the matter. Strict departmental proceedings will be initiated following the inquiry and those erring officals found guilty will be punished in accordance with the law.

In the meantime many student organisations condemned the entire incident. While putting the blame on SEBA for their total laxity, they said that it has been playing with the lives of thousand of students and demanded that the guilty be brought to book immediately.
