HSDP demands CBI probe into fiscal anomalies

DIPHU, June 27 � The Hills State Democratic Party (HSDP), Karbi Students� Association (Robin Teron faction) and Karbi Nimso Chingthur Asong (KNCA) through a joint memorandum to the Prime Minister has demanded a CBI probe into the alleged financial irregularities that has taken place in the KAAC and Dima Hasao Autonomous Council so far.

The memorandum, sent to the Prime Minister through the Deputy Commissioner of Karbi Anglong, also mentioned that the incumbent Hill Areas Development minister under the Gogoi Cabinet regularly gets his cut of four per cent commission for releasing funds for the two autonomous hill councils.

Awards for Medhi, Malakar

GUWAHATI, June 27� The Chief Editor of Rangili Barta, a weekly published from Guwahati, Mahesh Chandra Medhi has been selected for the late Geetadevi Agarwala Memorial Journalist Award, a press release received here said.

Mahesh Chandra Medhi, who started his journalistic career in 1967, has worked for many newspapers in Assam and the rest of the country. He also started his own press and has worked as the chief editor of Rangili Barta for the last 21 years.

The late Dhanraj Agarwala Memorial Award will be given to the former Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri district and eminent litterateur, Thaneswar Malakar. Both the awards will be presented on June 29 at a city-based hotel, the release added.
