By Staff Correspondent

SHILLONG, July 15 - Meghalaya Health department today ordered an inquiry into allegation of government hospitals denying HIV patients medical care at their institutes.

Health Minister AL Hek said a time-bound inquiry would be conducted into the allegation. I have directed the Joint Director of Shillong Civil Hospital to institute an inquiry, he said.

According to the Meghalaya State Network for Positive People (MSNP), two women with HIV were recently denied treatment at the Shillong Civil Hospital and North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS).

Nobody should be denied health care facility, be it in Government or in a private hospital, Hek added.

According to MSNP, one of the two women had to undergo an operation for taking out a cyst. The other woman needed a gall bladder operation. However, the Shillong Civil Hospital and NEIGRIHMS both denied them medical care.
