Horticulture dept listed as top performer

GUWAHATI, March 7 � State�s Horticulture Department has been listed as top performer in many respects by the Government of India in its Impact Evaluation Report of Horticulture Mission for North East and Himalayan States during the 11th Five Year Plan (2007-08 to 2011-12).

According to sources in the Horticulture Department, Assam has topped these states in matters of expansion of area under plantation crops like coconut with 43 percentage.

In matters of expansion of area under replacement or rejuvenation of senile plantation, like orange, citrus etc also, the State has topped the list with 25 per cent to its credit.

It has also topped the list of the states in respect of total additional area under horticulture crops since 2009-10 with 13 per cent to its credit

However, the State has secured the second position in matters of expansion of aromatic plants with 13 per cent to its credit and spices with 16 per cent to its credit.

In matters of expansion of the area under floriculture, fruit crops and medicinal plants, it has secured the third position respectively with 12 per cent, 12 per cent and 10 per cent to its credit, said the sources.
