Holi festival at Doul Gobinda from March 4

NORTH GUWAHATI, Feb 24 � Hectic preparations are on to celebrate the ensuing Doul Utsav, the festival of colours, at the renowned Doul Gobinda temple at Rajaduar from March 4. Every year, the five-day celebrations draw thousands of devotees from various parts of the state.

On March 4, Meshdah with the deity of Lord Gobinda would be performed in the evening at 6:30 near the bank of the Brahmaputra with traditional religious rituals amidst namkirtan. After Adibash, Lord Gobinda would be seated on the �doul�.

On March 5, the programme will Commence in the morning at 6:30 with Mahasnan of Lord Gobinda which will be followed by nam prasanga by devotees, recital of Kirtan and Bhagabat and nam prasanga by women devotees thronging from various places. After the nagaranam of the invited groups. there would be an offering of coloured powder (phaku) to Lord Gobinda with rituals. This would be followed by hom, distribution of prasad and bhog followed by cultural functions presented by local artistes in the evening .

Similar programmes would begin at 6:30 am on March 6 and March 7.

On the concluding day, the programme will start with holy dip of Lord Gobinda. This will be followed by namprasanga by devotees, recital of holy Bhagabat, worshipping of Lord Gobinda, namprasanga by women devotees, followed by closure of worshipping.

After distribution of bhog and prasad, there would be a colourful religious procession to be participated by thousands of devotees hailing from various areas with Lord Gobinda in a decorated chariot drawn by devotees.

In the evening at 6:45, there would be a colourful display of fireworks which would be followed by Panchapuja of the Lord. At 7:30 pm, after ascending the Monikut by the Lord, there would be distribution of prasad.

At 9:30 pm, there would be staging of a full-fledged drama befitting the occasion by an invited party.
