HNLC bandh hits normal life in Shillong

SHILLONG, Feb 16 � Normal life was affected today in the state capital here in view of the 12-hour bandh called by the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC). However, no untoward incident was reported.

During the day, some of the major business centres � Iewduh (Bara Bazaar) and Khyndailad (Police Bazaar) � remained closed. Local taxis remained off the road and people mostly stayed indoors.

But the state and Central Government offices and financial institutions were open. Chief Secretary PBO Warjri said attendance in the state government offices was about 80 per cent throughout Khasi-Jaintia Hills. �There were some offices which recorded poor attendance,� he said.
