MAJULI, Jan 9 - The naamghar is the heart of the Assamese society. Like the heart which plays the functional role in combining all the emotions and thereby make a good human being, the naamghar also unites all Assamese people and has been playing a key role in the greater Assamese society since the time of its birth, said Dr Pitambor Dev Goswami, satradhikar of the Sri Sri Auniati Satra in a meeting held at the Auniati Satra on Sunday. The meeting was held to discuss a proposal of preparing a historical document of all the naamghars of Assam in the form of a book by 2020.
In that meeting, a discussion was held about publishing a book in 2020, where the history of all the naamghars of Assam since the day of its establishment will be included. Representatives of naamghars from various places of the State like North Guwahati, Bokakhat, Jorhat, Golaghat, Lakhimpur, Sivasagar, Majuli etc., came and offered their opinions regarding this great effort of the satradhikar.
The satradhikar also added that, Our ancestors had dedicated a lot in establishing more than 10,000 naamghars in Assam but with the passage of time, their memory began to fade from our minds. So, through this book, an effort will be made to show reverence to their hard work and their contribution to the Assamese society.
As chief guest, Dr Binay Bordoloi, a Jorhat-born American resident, who is also the bormedhi of a naamghar situated in Americas Cherry Hill, established by Dr Pitambor Dev Goswami on September 25, 2016, said, it is a great effort and this book will definitely help the future generations to know about Assam and Assamese culture more systematically and in an organised manner. He also described the story of establishing the naamghar in America and revealed his future plans about that naamghar.
The representatives of the naamghars of different places of Assam praised the effort of satradhikar and assured him of help in all possible ways to create such a great book.
At the end, Dr Pitambor Dev Goswami thanked all the representatives and Dr Bordoloi who came from America, and said that to publish such a book by including the data of all the naamghars of Assam is not an easy task, so he will need the help of all people and if gets that help, then with the blessings of the Almighty, the book will be completed by 2020.
