DUNI, Sept 13 - Like in previous years, this year also the Khatara Satra Management Committee has begun its preparatory work in order to celebrate its Pacheti Mahotsav with a four-day-long traditional programme from September 16.
The historic Khatara Satra�s nearly 447-year-old prestigious Pacheti Mahotsav has now turned into a familiar mass-festival of Darrang district. Every year, thousands of people from different places of Darrang, Kamrup, Baska, Udalguri etc., cutting across caste, creed and religion.
According to the printed itinerary, on September 16, the programme will began with pratah prasnga. The first day�s programme will include tree plantation, naam prasanga, opening of toran, lighting of the earthen lamp, launching of pure drinking water preservation programme. The second day�s programme will begin with the hoisting of the dharmadhwaja by the president of the satra management committee Jadav Chandra Mahanta. Thereafter, Manoj Kumar, DC, Darrang will inaugurate the door of �Banijya kshetra�, temporary commercial complex while Binanda Kumar Saikia, MLA of Sipajhar LAC will formally release the annual publication Pacheti to be brought out on the occasion.
The most attractive cultural programme of the day �Dadhimanthan Kristi�, a composition of song and dances related with childhood activities of Lord Krishna will be inaugurated by Hemanta Kumar Deka, member, Darrang Zila Parishad. Jan-bahan santi, formal offering of ritual blessing on new vehicles will also be organised in the evening.
The religious meeting �Dharmalochoni Sabha�, will be the third day�s main programme. A few distinguished speakers including Madhab Rajbongshi, former MP, Mangaldai parliamentary constituency, Dr Zoiinath Sarma, former Revenue Minister will attend the meeting to be inaugurated by Dr Amarendra Narayan Dev, former president, Darrang Zila Sahitya Sabha. The four-day-long programme will end with a cultural programme to be inaugurated by Makunda Deka, secretary, Darrang Zila Committee, BJP.
It is worth mentioning that high selling of fruit saplings, particularly coconut saplings of a local variety is the most familiar aspect of Pacheti. To buy at least one pair coconut sapling is considered an identity of Pacheti visitors. Though, it is a small leap for the buyers and sellers, but gigantic one in environment sector to make our earth cooler and greener. People here believe that the coconut or other fruit saplings planted on the day of Pacheti give bumper production in future. That is why, people always prefer this sapling to other things.
