DIGBOI, July 6 � Various socio-literary and educational organisations and institutions deeply mourned the death of the noted poet of Sugandhi Pokhila (the Fragrant Butterfly) fame, Hiren Bhattacharjya on July 4.

The condolence meeting was held at Priyadass Talukdar Bhawan under the auspices of Digboi Sahitya Sewa Samiti. Among the other organisations who participated in the mourning were Digboi Kavi Chakra and Digboi Unnayan Samiti. The Digboi Press Club, the Tai Ahom Students Body and the Digboi College family also paid tearful homage to the master poet. The students and teachers of Axom Junior College also condoled the death of the Assam Valley Literary Award and Sahitya Academy Award winner Hiren Bhattacharjya and observed two minutes silence praying for eternal peace of the departed soul.

Our Biswanath Chariali correspondent adds: The news of eminent poet, Hiren Bhattacharjya�s death was received with shock here. Several organisations like Biswanath Chariali Sahitya Sabha, Lekhika Samaroh Samiti, Biswanath Chariali units of AASU and AJYCP, Biswanath Zila Sambadik Santha, Biswanath Chariali Press Club, Senior Citizens Forum etc have condoled the death of the poet of �Sugandhi Pokhila�. The flag of Sahitya Sabha has been kept at half mast.

A correspondent from Nowboicha adds: The Nowboicha Press Club (NPC) has condoled the deaths of poet Hiren Bhattacharjya at a condolence meeting held at the temporary office of NPC on Thursday. The contributions of the eminent poet towards the development of high quality poems in the State and in the field of literature were recalled at the meeting. Pradeep Katoni, Umananda Boruah, Anjan Upadhyay, Jayanta Bora, Nitul Bora, Pavan Gogoi, Prasanta Bora, members of NPC speaking on the occasion dwelt on the various aspects of his life and works. The meeting conveyed its heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family members and observed one-minute silence paying for eternal peace of the departed soul. The meeting was presided over by Lekhan Buragohain, president of NPC.

On the other hand, Nowboicha Sakha Sahitya Sabha, Sankardev Sishu Niketan Bowboicha, Lakhimpur Anchalik Moina Parijat, Nowboicha Regional Students� Union, Nowboicha College, Nowboicha HS School, Pohumora HS School, Nowboicha Jr College, Bani Yubak Sangha, BaniMoina Parijat, also condoled Bhattacharjya�s death.

Our Nalbari correspondent adds: The death of Sugandhi Pokhilar Kavi Hiren Bhattacharjya was widely mourned in Nalbari district where the poet had read out his poems many times. The poet came to attend various programme of Seuji Seuji at Nankar Bhaira.

Besides the poet had a cordial relation with the Paglapaira Gosthi of Nalbari district.

The Nalbari district unit of AASU,AJYCP,Nalbari Zilla Sambad Santha, Nalbari Sahitya Sabha,Nalbari Sahitya Samaj along with various organisations condoled the death of their beloved poet. Noted poet, critic Dr Basanta Kumar Bhattacharya said that Kavi Hiren Bhattacharjya made the modern Assamese poems most popular among the people.Popular poet Pranab Kumar Barman also said that Kavi Hiren Bhattacharjya was an inspiration for the new poets.
