Hiroshima Day observed in Manipur

By Correspondent

IMPHAL, Aug 6 - The 74th Hiroshima Day was observed in Manipur today to remember the worlds first atom bomb attack at Hiroshima in Japan on the 6th day of August in 1945.

The idea of observing the Day here in Northeastern region is to show the world that the people here do not want war. It is also to urge the global community not to use the deadly weapon again in future, according to the organisers.

This is a kind of protest demonstration to prevent the use of weapon of mass destruction such as nuclear weapon in this era, says Dr Moirangthem Nara Singh.

Communist leader Dr Singh was speaking at the observation held under the aegis of State units of Indian Peoples Theatre Association, Progressive Writers Association, All India Peace and Solidarity Organisation and Indian Society for Cultural Cooperation and Friendship, at Irawat Bhavan in Imphal.

The Indo-Japan Friendship Association (IJFA), Manipur also observed the Day at Manipur Press Club here.
