Hindi film on Kanaklata

GUWAHATI, Sept 20 - On the occasion of the death anniversary of freedom fighter Kanaklata, a function was organised by LPKG Production on September 19 at the Guwahati Press Club, a press release stated today.

At the function it was announced that a Hindi film Purab Ki Awaz, based on the life and sacrifice of Kanaklata is being made. It is produced by Loknath Deka and directed by Chandra Mudoi. Another Assamese film, Epah Phulil Epah Saril, is also under production by LPKG Production.

Speaking on the objective of making Purab Ki Awaz, director Mudoi said it is being made with a view to drawing the attention of the national viewers to the bravery and sacrifice of a 14-year-old young girl Kanaklata, during the freedom movement. She was shot dead by the British while she was hoisting the national flag.

The bravery and sacrifice of martyrs like Bhagat Singh and Mangal Pandey are known nationally. But the role of martyr Kanaklata is yet to be known outside Assam, he added. He said that the Assamese film Epah Phulil, Epah Saril also depicts the protesting voice of a young girl of the present generation.

The guests of honour at the function were Kanaksen Deka, ex-president Asam Sahitya Sabha; RP Sarma, MP; Haider Hussain, noted journalist and Hema Bharali, veteran freedom fighter. All of them praised the novel maiden venture of LPKG Production to bring to the notice of national viewers Kanaklata�s sacrifice through the film. RP Sarma assured of all possible help and cooperation.

The major roles in both the films are enacted by Nipon Goswami, Urmila Mahanta, Debashish Barthakur, Manimala, Tapan Sarma, Rina Bora etc. The music directors are Dr Hitesh Barua, Ajay Phukan and Tapan Kakati, while cinematography is by Naba Kumar Das, the release added.
