By Correspondent

DHEMAJI, March 24 - Former Cabinet Minister and newly-joined BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma started poll campaign here with padayatra from Sapatia to Machowa Chariali. Thousands of BJP workers and supporters joined the rally, sources said.

Addressing a large gathering, the BJP leader termed the Assembly elections as the last Saraighat Battle where BJP would defeat the Congress and the AIUDF. He urged the people to root out the Congress and AIUDF for safety of Assam and the Assamese people.

Criticising the Congress party, Sarma said that the Tarun Gogoi-led Congress Government has done nothing for employment of 26 lakhs educated unemployed of the State in the last 15 years. He flayed that the Congress is a political party that does not do anything for the real welfare of the people and the State, but hank after power for corruption.

The Congress Government did not take any step to develop West Machkhowa area for which the inhabitants of the greater area have to suffer a lot for deplorable road communication for years. He assured that if Pradan Boruah, the BJP candidate of the constituency, wins in the election, all the unusable roads in the area will be reconstructed with black topping soon.

He added that if BJP would come to power, it would provide for free education for girls from college to university.

Chandan Brahma backed: Himanta Biswa Sarma, BJPs convenor of Election Management Committee and BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary on Tuesday landed at Kajalgaon mini stadium in Chirang district by two separate choppers to take part in a rally organised in support of Chandan Brahma, who is a BPF candidate for Sidli Assembly seat, before submission of his nomination.

Hagrama has been ruling the BTC with love, he will have special role in next BJP-BPF Government and he would become a State leader, said Sarma and sought vote for Brahma.

Criticising the Congress party, Sarma said, Now there is no Tarun Gogoi in Assam. Tarun Gogoi is going to sell the State to Ajmal (Badruddin Ajmal, AIUDF president).

In last Assembly polls, when the Congress party got only 52 seats in the State, Tarun Gogoi had bent down to the feet of Hagrama to form the Government, Sarma said.

If BJP-BPF Government is formed in the State, the BPF would offer scooty to those college girls who reside 15 km away from the college, amount 1.5 lakh to the poor for construction of house, besides all venture schools will be provincialised, students even up to college level would get free education and 32 lakh youths would get employment, said Sarma.

Biswajit Daimary, member of Rajya Sabha, said that the huge number of people, gathered here, have come neither to show power nor to take part in the rally, they have come to give the wining result of Brahma in Sidli seat.

Later, Chandan Brahma filed his nomination as BPF candidate for Sidli seat.

Sankar Prasad Ray, Congress candidate for Bongaigaon seat, also filed his nomination at Deputy Commissioners office in Bongaigaon.
