Himanta offers to resign

GUWAHATI, June 15 � Health and Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today met Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and offered to resign from his post.

Talking to The Assam Tribune after meeting the Chief Minister this morning, Sarma said that following the decision taken at a meeting of around 40 legislators yesterday, he offered to step down from the post of Minister.

Sarma said that he conveyed the decision taken at the meeting last night and he and three other Ministers are ready to step down to facilitate reshuffle of the Ministry if the Chief Minister desires to do so.

The Minister, however, said that it is up to the Chief Minister to decide whether to accept the offer to resign. He also clarified that he would continue to work as a Minister and discharge his duties to the best of his ability till the Chief Minister takes a decision to accept his offer to resign.

Sarma said that the dissidents have decided to abide by any decision that Congress president Sonia Gandhi takes on their grievances.
