Himanta not aware of CBI summon

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 21 Former minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that he is not aware of any summon notice served on him by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the multi-crore rupee Saradha chit fund scam.

A section of media had reported that he, along with another former minister Anjan Dutta, were served summon notices by the Kolkata office of the CBI.

Not aware of any such developments as yet, the MLA from Jalukbari constituency told this reporter.

Sources close to the former minister said that Sarma will be here in Guwahati this week but has plans to fly to Delhi thereafter.

Meanwhile, former minister Anjan Dutta could not be contacted for his comments in spite of repeated attempts.

The countrys premier investigating agency had conducted searches in the houses of former ministers Himanta Biswa Sarma and Anjan Dutta besides offices and residence of Monoranjana Sinh, the estranged wife of former MP Matang Sinh and singer Sadananda Gogoi in the month of August this year.

The CBIs investigation received a setback after former Assam DGP, another accused in the case, had committed suicide giving a new twist to the entire course of the investigation.

It needs mention here that singer Sadananda Gogoi, one of the prime accused in the Saradha chit fund scam, has already been charge-sheeted in this case and is currently in judicial custody in a West Bengal jail.
