Himanta may handle BJPs Tripura polls charge

By PRABIR SIL

AGARTALA, Oct 12 - After scripting an emphatic victory in Assam Assembly elections, upbeat BJP leadership looks set to hand over partys Tripura command to Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in 2018 Assembly elections.

Sarma, who had played a key role in dislodging Tarun Gogoi Government, would be assisted by two BJP MPs from outside the State as Pradesh Prabhari. Besides, a politician from the State would be made a member of Rajya Sabha at least one year before the next Assembly elections, said BJP State unit president Biplab Deb.

Speaking to the media, he said, Himanta Biswa Sarma, a Minister in the BJP Government in Assam, would be arriving here later this month to prepare a strategy for the 2018 Assembly elections.

BJP president Amit Shah is expected to visit the State to oversee the partys organisational activities, he said. There was an organisational meeting in Guwahati where State presidents of all eight NE States and MLAs from Arunachal Pradesh remained present. There was an elaborate discussion on Tripura which will go to the Assembly elections in 2018, he said. Heaping praise on the Narendra Modi Government for introducing a direct train service between Agartala and Kolkata from October 8, Deb said the BJP would not take political mileage out of it.

Asserting that Narendra Modi Government is striving for progress, Deb said there is an initiative to have double railway track from Pecharthal to Udaipur via Kailashahar and Kamalpur.

Railway Ministry may issue a notification seeking survey for the alternative railway track to increase train speed. It is near impossible to increase speed of train without having a double track, he pointed out.

Deb expressed his unhappiness over the functioning of Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate chit fund related cases in the State.

We are not happy over the role of Rajib Singh who was at the helm of SIT. Now, KV Srijesh, another IPS officer is looking after the SIT. The party wants the SIT to expedite all ponzi fund related cases, he said.

Expressing dismay over the selection of beneficiaries under PMAY, Dey said the Centre wants poor people to get the benefit. Centre has prescribed guidelines for PMAY. If anything is wrong, the party will seek clarification, added he.
