Himanta loyalists to meet top AICC leaders

By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, Nov 24 At least 13 MLAs, all Himanta Biswa Sarmas loyalists, have landed in the capital to meet top AICC leaders to serve an ultimatum to act on resolving the political crisis in the State without further delay.

Sources said Sarma and the MLAs are planning to call on Congress president Sonia Gandhi, vice president Rahul Gandhi and AICC general secretary in-charge for Assam Dr CP Joshi to place their demands.

Sources said Himantas group is awaiting the High Commands decision on Kharge Committees report. The group is now going to press the party leaders to take a call and resolve the issue or they would be forced to think about other options, warned a member of the group.

The Kharge Committee had visited Assam a couple of months back and held one-to-one meetings with Ministers and MLAs to decide on the leadership issue following an open rebellion by Himantas group against Gogoi. Kharge has since submitted his report, which is pending a decision.

Meanwhile, AICC sources said the Assam issue is likely to be taken up for consideration towards the end of the month. Dr Joshi is away in West Bengal and he is expected to take up the issue soon, said sources.

The AICC is likely to take a call on clearing Chief Minister Tarun Gogois list of new ministers and appointment of a new PCC chief.
