DIBRUGARH, Nov 19 State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Siddhartha Bhattacharya has indicated that the party has no issue with former minister Himanta Biswa Sarma joining the saffron party provided he is eligible under the constitution of the party and is willing to follow the party ideologies. Bhattacharya was addressing media persons here on the sidelines of the BJPs Jana Jagaran Yatra.
The State BJP president said that any Indian citizen who is fit under the constitution of the party and shows interest in the ideals and policies of the party would be welcomed. Bhattacharya was responding to a question at the press conference held at a hotel here today. He, however, said that the party would respond only after receiving applications from interested persons. The party has so far not received any formal intimation from the former minister, he added.
On the reservations of some senior party leaders regarding the speculation on Sarmas joining the BJP, the State president said that differences within the party would be discussed at the party level.
The State BJP is holding the Jana Jagaran Yatra in upper Assam in an effort to strengthen the party by welcoming new members into its fold.
Bhattacharya interacted with the intellectuals of the town here yesterday. Paying homage at the portrait of Chaolung Sukapha at the Sukapha Bhawan at Borborooah, he also addressed party workers at the District Library.
The State BJP chief said that the party was aiming to register the membership of about 25 lakh voters in the State through its yatra.
