Himanta awaits final call from Sonia

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 18 Amidst reports on the Congress high command planning to give a longer rope to beleaguered Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi facing the heat of dissidence, Health and Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that he is still awaiting the final call from the All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Sonia Gandhi.

Sarma told The Assam Tribune that the official word has not been communicated to him as yet and he will wait till the time.

Asked as to how long he will wait, Sarma said, I have not set any timeline for me. I can only say when the final word is communicated by Sonia Gandhi. Even Abhisek Manu Singhvi said that the party presidents call on the Kharge report is still awaited.

A group of dissident MLAs on Thursday told mediapersons in an official press conference that they would wait till Saturday and if the high command does not respond to the demand for removal of the Chief Minister, they would opt for an alternative.

The war of words between the Chief Minister and the dissident camp led by Sarma had intensified in the last few months with the AICC sending senior Congressman Mallikarjun Kharge to take stock of the situation and report on that.
