Himanta accuses Cong of being family-centric

By Correspondent

BONGAIGAON, April 6 - State BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday at a poll rally at Abhayapuri in Bongaigaon district exuded confidence on his partys latest position in the State and claimed that his party and its allies would form the Government in Assam after the Assembly elections.

Sarma slammed the Congress party for its link with illegal syndicates spreading across the State and family-centric politics, which secures political careers for the family members of Congress leaders and not the general people of the party.

Sarma likened the politics of the Congress party to a television soap, named Ghar-Sansar, and said that if Mahatma Gandhi was alive today, he might have joined the BJP.

Sarma said, before every election in the State, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi buys votes by administering vitamin dose to the electorate in the form of yarn and blanket. In contrast, the BJP is aiming to make the poor economically capable of buying these stuff on their own, Sarma said.

The election rally, which saw over 12,000 people at Gandhi Maidan on Tuesday, was organised to back the AGP-BJP alliance candidate, Robin Banikya, for the Abhayapuri Assembly seat.

As a large number of voters had expressed their desire for a political change after casting their votes in the first phase of polls in 65 Assembly seats, the BJP and its allies would certainly form the Government in the State, Sarma claimed. Forecasting the massive defeat of the ruling Congress party and its candidate in Abhayapuri seat, Chandan Kumar Sarkar, he claimed that the victory of the alliance candidate, Robin Banikya is assured.
