Himachal mishap: Mortal remains of 9 soldiers brought to State

GUWAHATI, July 16 - The mortal remains of nine Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) of 4 Assam Regiment, who died in the building collapse at Solan in Himachal Pradesh on Sunday, reached Guwahati today. A total of 13 JCOs died in the incident, of which nine of them were from the northeastern states.

A special Indian Air Force aircraft brought the nine bodies from the Chandigarh Air Base. The aircraft then delivered the mortal remains of two individuals at Imphal, four at Silchar and three in Guwahati.

The names of these gallant soldiers from the North East are � Subedar Major Prodip Chandra Bhuyan (Nagaon), Subedar Bisharsing Basumatary (Dhubri), Subedar Ajit Kumar Singha (Hailakandi), Naik Subedar M Rajkishore Singha (Hailakandi), Subedar Sujit Sharma (Karimganj), Subedar Kumar Chorei (Karimganj), Subedar Henkhomang Gangte (Happy Valley, Shillong), Subedar K Lalson Vaiphei (Churachandpur, Manipur) and Naik Subedar M Nobin Chandra Singh (Thoubal, Manipur).

The mortal remains of Sub Maj Prodip Chandra Bhuyan, Sub Bisharsing Basumatary and Sub Henkhomang Gangte arrived at Air Force Station Guwahati. A wreath-laying ceremony was organised, which was led by Air Commodore T Mare, Air-Officer-Commanding, Air Force Station Guwahati, Brig RK Gaikwad, Commandant, Assam Regiment Centre, Shillong and other senior officers. Thereafter, the bodies of the martyrs were sent to their respective places with escorts.
