High voter turnout in council polls

SHILLONG, Feb 25 � The Autonomous District Councils (ADC) polls in Khasi and Jaintia Hills witnessed a high voter turnout with both the councils together recording 83.19 per cent voter turnout.

In the Khasi Hills ADC, the overall voting percentage was 75.86 per cent, but in the Jaintia Hills ADC the percentage was a high 90.68 percent.

Rymbai-Khliehriat saw a voter turnout of 96.77 per cent, the highest amongst the 29 constituencies in Jaintia Hills ADC. Nongshken constituency in Khasi Hills ADC witnessed the highest turnout with 85.47 per cent.

Overall, 6.95 lakh voters exercised their franchise in the two council polls. In Jaintia Hills ADC a total of 1.8 lakh cast their ballot and in Khasi Hills ADC 5.6 lakh exercised their franchise.

In both the polls female voters outnumbered their male counterpart in exercising their franchise.
