High Court seeks details from APSC

GUWAHATI, July 31 - The Gauhati High Court has asked the Assam Public Service Commission to divulge the names of all the selected candidates who are related to Ministers, Members of Legislative Assembly and the bureaucrats.

The division bench, comprising Chief Justice (acting) K Sreedhar Rao and Justice PK Saikia, has also directed the APSC to safely preserve the answer sheets of the candidates who had appeared in the examination, besides other records till the disposal of the case. The order came in response to a PIL filed by KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi.

It has further asked the Secretary, APSC to inform about the qualification and social background of the incumbent Chairman and Members of the Commission.

In addition, the Court also wanted to know about the procedure followed for conducting the viva voce, marks assigned to each member and expert and criteria for selection of experts, besides a number of other steps followed while conducting the examination.

The Court, seeking a reply from the authority concerned, said, �What were the instructions to the invigilators who supplied the answer sheets to the candidates at the appointed time and received the answer sheets after the candidate completed the answers.�

The next date of hearing has been fixed on August 14.
