GUWAHATI, March 14 � The Hem Barua Birth Centenary Celebration Committee, which is going to hold the concluding function of the centenary celebrations on April 22, has demanded of the Government to erect a full-size statue of the Tyagbir in front of the District Library here.
The other demands of the committee include institution of an award in the field of education/teaching/literature after Hem Barua, naming of a road after him, inclusion of his life and works in educational curricula, and preservation of his portrait in Parliament.
The concluding function of the celebrations will be held at the Refinery Workers� Union campus on April 22. Prior to this, programmes including a painting contest will be held among children on April 19.
