Hek files FIR over cash distribution rumours

By Correspondent

SHILLONG, Nov 21 - Having enough of the harassment for the past ten days with hundreds of people lining up at his residence for the rumoured cash being distributed by him, Congress legislator AL Hek today filed an FIR.

I would like to inform you that some unknown people have spread rumours that I am distributing Rs 5,000 to each person, not only in my constituency but also the people outside my constituency, Hek said in his FIR filed before the East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police.

For the past ten-odd days, there have been hundreds of people coming to the legislators residence to collect the rumoured cash. There were rumours being spread that the legislator wanted to get rid of his unaccounted cash in old currency, so he was distributing it to the people in the wake of the demonetising process.

The former cabinet minister in the Congress-led Government filed the FIR stating he was not being able to work due to constant queues of people at his residence in the wake of the rumours and that unknown people were behind the spread of the rumour.

Due to these rumours, hundreds of people from different places are visiting my residence and my office from morning till night every day, the FIR stated.

The sitting Congress legislator from Pynthorumkhrah constituency told The Assam Tribune that there are vested interest groups trying to tarnish his public image so that people get an impression that he has huge unaccounted cash.

This is just a ploy of vested interest groups to spread the rumour in a bid to tarnish my public image. I have filed the FIR so that the police investigates and books the people behind this malicious rumour, he stated.

Hek, a former BJP legislator, shifted his allegiance to the Congress. There are speculations that he may join the BJP ahead of the 2018 assembly elections.
