Heavy rain lashes Tura town

TURA, June 15 - Heavy showers lashed Tura town last night, damaging some roadside shops here. However, no human casualty was reported from anywhere. The downpour continued till early this morning.

Incessant rain caused flash flood and waterlogging and a few shops were washed away by the swirling waters on the streets.

According to reports coming here, two shops at the Don Bosco junction at Sampalgre were washed away by the Kasinang stream. The paved road was also damaged in the flash flood. Another shop near Chandmary, which was constructed across the Gandrak stream, also collapsed.

The Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, Ram Singh, stated that there was no major damage or casualty. A report is being compiled on the rain-related incidents within the Tura Municipal Board, he added. The Chandmary area is the worst affected in the flash flood.
