Heavy downpour inundates many parts of Nalbari town

NALBARI, July 10 - Heavy downpour for the past several days has created artificial flood in many parts of Nalbari town. Vital roads and residential areas of the town have been submerged by water causing hardships for the common man. In view of the waterlogging problem, people have decided to remain inside their houses. Several areas including Bidyapur, Gopalbazar, Thana Chak, Khatabari, Islam Suba, Chawk Bazaar, Kazipara and Islam Supa have remained under knee-deep water due to the artificial flood. The surface communication has been affected on Palla Road, Hajo-Nalbari road, College road, Barama road and important sub-ways of the town are under water. On the other hand, seepage water has entered the premises of Nalbari Revenue Circle Office, Executive Engineer Office of Water Resources, Forest office, Deputy Commissioner�s bungalow. The Nalbari town has been witnessing waterlogging problem for the past several months in the wake of poor drainage system. However, the Nalbari District Administration and the Municipality Board have failed to provide a permanent solution to the problem. A section of people alleged that despite repeated demands from various quarters, MLA of Nalbari LAC Ashok Sarma has not taken any pro-active steps for which the problem is aggravating day-by-day. Meanwhile, to give a respite to the perennial woes, Deputy Commissioner Bharat Bhushan Dev Choudhury has asked the Urban Development Authority to prepare a scientific plan to solve the perennial waterlogging problem in the greater interest of the people.
