Heart attack world�s number one killer

GUWAHATI, Sept 28 - Reputed cardiologist Dr Pranab Jyoti Bhattacharya today spoke about different aspects of heart disease and related precautions to be taken. He was addressing a press conference organised by the Indian Medical Association at the Guwahati Press Club here, on the eve of World Heart Day tomorrow.

Dr Bhattacharya also said that cardiac arrest was the world�s leading cause of death, claiming 17.3 million lives each year. He said the success of World Heart Day depended on the proactive measures of organisations from around the world to help spread awareness about cardiovascular disease.

He further said that walking, running, sporting events, concerts, public talks and screening could help in reducing cardiac arrest.

World Heart Day is observed every year on September 29. Each year�s celebration has a different theme, reflecting key issues and topic relating to heart health. This year the theme is �Creating heart-healthy Environments�.
