HC serves notice to Tripura Govt on low pay

By Prabir Sil

AGARTALA, Jan 30 A Division Bench of Tripura High Court headed by Chief Justice Deepak Gupta has served notice to the State Government asking it to respond to the grievances of Sauvik Bardhan, an employee of the State Government within next two months.

Bardhan, an Inspector of Legal Meteorology department had given a representation to the Finance Secretary seeking reply on why he is not getting pay scale at par with the employees of other State Governments, on October 24, 2014.

The representation was given to the Finance Secretary well before ending of XIII Finance Commissions tenure. In the petition, Bardhan stated how he is deprived from getting a decent salary. In the plea, he also mentioned that he is facing trouble to lead a normal life due to low salary.

Having failed to get any response from the State Government, the employee had filed a writ petition in the High Court seeking a reply from the State Government. On January 9, Justice SC Das exhorted the petitioner to knock the door of higher court.

The petitioner then filed a separate writ petition before the Division Bench of the High Court. A division bench comprising the Chief Justice and Justice S Talapatra on Tuesday conducted hearing on the writ petition.

After hearing the case, the division bench asked the State Government why it did not respond to the grievances of the petitioners and directed it must reply to the grievances of Bardhan within next eight weeks. Advocate Sujata Deb and DK Biswas moved the case of the petitioner.

Here it may be noted that the State Government employees are receiving only 69 per cent DA whereas the Central Government staff draw 107 per cent DA resulting in a huge gap in the basic allowances.
