HC seeks case diary of KMSS activists

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 5 In response to the anticipatory bail petitions filed by activists of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti including Kamal Medhi, Dharjya Konwar and Amarjyoti Bezbaruah, the Gauhati High Court directed the public prosecutor to produce the case diary on March 12, even as the four-day police custody of Akhil Gogoi and five others would end tomorrow.

The public prosecutor vehemently protested against the petitioners being granted bail, stating that there was substantial evidence against the petitioners and the involvement of land mafia in the case also cannot be ruled out.

In the meantime, however, the court granted interim anticipatory bail to Amarjyoti Bezbaruah keeping in view the health condition of his father.

The next date of hearing has been fixed on March 12, informed advocate Santanu Borthakur, who moved the bail petitions. Public prosecutor Z Kamar appeared on behalf of the investigation agency.

Meanwhile, with the police custody expiring tomorrow, Akhil Gogoi and five others accused will be produced in the Court of Eleka Magistrate (Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate).
