The courts intervention came following a writ petition by an aggrieved candidate, Md Maznur Ali of Nalbari, who charged the selection committee with committing widespread illegalities, and sought to buttress his claims by furnishing documents obtained through application of the RTI Act.

The court, in its order, stated that the inquiry should be made on the entire episode on the basis of the allegations made by the petitioner under the direct supervision of BB Mishra, Additional DGP, Assam. The court also authorized Mishra to get the inquiry conducted through a competent investigation team under his supervision.

The court further instructed the Registry to provide the investigating agency with all the required documents.

The petitioner alleged that the marks given to some of the appointed candidates who had already been working on a contractual basis were increased/miscalculated in the sum total in their favour. In addition there were anomalies regarding age as well.
