Hasina calls for investments from NE

AGARTALA, Jan 11 � Acknowledging wholeheartedly Tripura�s support in the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday appealed to the business community of Northeast to cash in on the investment friendly atmosphere in her country.

The Bangladesh government has already decided to offer access to Chittagong and Mongla sea ports for better business ties with Indian businessmen and use of Ashuganj port is just a step away, Bangladesh Prime Minister said while addressing a India-Bangladesh Business Meet jointly organised by the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) at Prajna Bhavan here.

Noting that the there is a huge potential of Indian investment in Bangladesh in IT, power and healthcare, Hasina said, �Political will is there to carry forward the bilateral ties and the business community of both sides must strive to catch the opportunities�.

Emphasising on solving all pending bilateral issues including water sharing through discussion, the Bangladesh Prime Minister said, �India being a big country must come forward with an open heart to solve all the outstanding bilateral issues. We do expect India to show more sensibility in resolving all pending issues�.

Branding poverty as the biggest challenge not only for Bangladesh but also for South East Asian Countries, she said this could not be addressed properly if business among neighbours is flourished. �We are trying our best to maintain peace and tranquility in the country to pave the way for promoting trade and business with neghbouring countries�, she said.
