Hailstorm hits tea gardens in Barak Valley

SILCHAR, April 2 - As many as six tea gardens of Barak Valley were damaged due to a hailstorm that swept across the Valley on Sunday evening leaving many homeless.

Bhaskar Prasad Chaliha, secretary of Surma Valley branch of the India Tea Association, said, �The hailstorm caused widespread damaged to standing bushes and affected tea gardens at Koiya, Burnerpore, Lalamukh, Lalacherra, Doyapur. The labour quarters of almost all the tea gardens were badly hit.�

The hailstorm has caused tremendous financial damage and the plantation will take at least a month to recover, he added.
