DIPHU, Aug 28 - Hills Area Development (HAD) Minister Sum Ronghang on Sunday inaugurated the Karbi Anglong and NC Hills (KANCH) shopping mall at Manja near Diphu. The �KANCH� is a brand name of Assam Hill Small Industries Corporation Ltd (AHSIDCL), Government of Assam.
Inaugurating the �KANCH� shopping mall, Ronghang said that AHSIDCL is a flourishing company in the hill district having various production units. At a time there was a sugar mill in Manja, but that has disappeared now. There are many corporations in the State which are public undertakings, but most are sick. The AHSIDCL is also a State PSU, and was almost in a moribund state due to lack of financial assistance from the government, but it is now functioning smoothly under Dhansing Lekthe, the Managing Director of AHSIDC, Ronghang said.
It needs to be mentioned here that the AHSIDC Ltd is producing products like packaged drinking water, pineapple, orange and mango juice, RTS and squash, turmeric powder, spices, mustard oil, citronella, lemon grass oil, pickle, jam etc., under the brand name �KANCH�.
The pineapples of Deithor are famous for their size and sweetness in the world and they grow on hilly terrain. The growers do not use any kind of fertilisers or pesticides. So it can be regarded as an organic fruit like oranges, turmeric, ginger etc. Accordingly, fruit processing units have been set up at Deithor in Karbi Anglong and Haflong near Jatinga Valley in Dima Hasao. The �KANCH� brand mustard oil is also famous for its quality and purity as they are processed from local mustard seeds. Various spices are also produced under its brand name. The corporation also produces packaged drinking water and is a major producer in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao now. The corporation has its own captive citronella and lemon grass farms at Manja, Diyungbra, Gandhipur. Another RO plant was installed in August and September, 2015.
Howraghat MLA, Joyram Engleng and EMs, KAAC, Pradip Diphusa, Amarsing Tisso, Ratan Teron, Tarendra Brahma, Kache Rongpipi, MAC Lunsing Teron and senior government officials were present during the inaugural function.
