GUWAHATI, April 23 - Guwahati and Bongaigaon will lock horns in the final of the Nuruddin Ahmed Trophy Senior Inter District Cricket Tournament to be held at the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) Stadium in Barsapara here from April 25 to 28.
At the ACA Stadium, Guwahati thrashed Nagaon by a mammoth margin of 767 runs. Resuming at an overnight total of 139 for two, Guwahati went on to amass 460 for the loss of nine wickets. Rahul Hazarika rose to the occasion with a splendid innings of 219. Ashok Kr Saini and Debojit Baruah scalped four wickets each. Nagaon could only manage 58 runs in their second innings. Earlier in reply to Guwahati�s first innings total of 459 for eight, Nagaon were bundled out for 94.
Mangaldai Correspondent adds: In the other semifinal, Silchar ensured a berth in the final by calling the toss of a coin right against Bongaigaon at the Mangaldai stadium today. After two days of the match had to be abandoned due to soggy outfield following overnight rain, a total of 74.1 overs were bowled on the third and final day. Batting first, Silchar scored 219 runs in their first innings. Abhishek Thakuri top scored with a quick fire 55 while Pritom Das contributed 45. Sunil Ranjan Gogoi was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets to his kitty for 70 runs while Pritam Talukdar and Pallab Das scalped two wickets each. In reply, Bongaigaon scored 47 for the loss of one wicket in 13 overs when the match was called off. Finally the result was decided by spinning of the coin where Silchar proved to be unfortunate.
