GUWAHATI, July 3 � The executive committee of Guwahati Sabita Sabha, in its meet held on Saturday, decided to hold the concluding function of the golden jubilee of the Sabha on August 21.
The Sabha, established in 1950 by illustrious Assamese poet Raghunath Choudhury and associated with the hallowed memory of a galaxy of writers like Atul Chandra Hazarika and Pandit Rajani Kanta Dev Sarma, has in the course of the last few decades published nearly 20 valuable reference books on Assamese culture and literature.
The meeting held under the presidentship of veteran journalist DN Chakravartty also decided to bring out in consolidated forms about 30 memorable lectures delivered at different functions of the Sabha during the last couple of years.
The Sabha will also bring out a voluminous publication containing about 500 pages, highlighting the glory of Assamese literature and cultural life.
The committee has decided to request the Vice President of India, AN Ansari, to be the chief guest at the concluding function of the Sabha�s golden jubilee. Dr Banikanta Sarma and PK Mahanta, working president and secretary of the Sabha respectively, explained the various activities of the Sabha in the meet.
