GUWAHATI, Dec 28 - The Guwahati Police Commissionerate has the highest number of vacancies in comparison to other districts of the State.
Replying on behalf of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal (who holds the Home portfolio) to a question from AIUDF MLA Rafiqul Islam, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary informed the House that at present as many as 788 different posts are lying vacant in different police stations and outposts under the Guwahati Police Commissionerate. Patowary was quoting home department data.
According to the data, 67 posts of sub-inspector, 20 posts of assistant sub-inspector, 11 posts of head constable, seven posts of naik, 659 posts of constable and 24 posts of woman police constable are lying vacant in the city commissionerate.
Significantly, as per the home department data, at present as many as 4,356 different posts are lying vacant in different police stations and outposts across the State. The figure includes six posts of inspector, 466 posts of sub-inspector, 263 posts of assistant-sub inspector, 186 posts of head constable, 147 posts of naik, 3,111 posts of constable and 177 posts of woman police constable.
