GUWAHATI, April 4 � Former champions Guwahati is on the verge of winning the Nuruddin Ahmed Trophy on the penultimate day of the four-day Elite Group Senior Inter District Cricket Tournament today.

At the Assam Cricket Association�s Barsapara stadium here, Nagaon is facing a daunting task to cross the winning target as on the final day tomorrow they need 377 in the second innings with eight wickets in hand.

Guwahati, resuming the second innings at the overnight total of 27 for one, scored 277 and took an overall lead of 430, courtesy to Rahul Hazarika�s unbeaten 112 off 201 balls with 12 hits to the fence. Sadek Imran Choudhury (55) and Romario Sharma (49) were the other notable contributors for the Guwahati team.

At stumps, the visiting team was 54 for the loss of two wickets.

Even if the match ends in a draw, Guwahati will take the trophy with a first innings lead of 153 runs.
