By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 24 - The long pending ropeway project to connect Guwahati and North Guwahati would have a trial run in December this year and its commencement from February next. If things go as planned, the city would soon see another ropeway from the foothills of Nilachal up to the Kamakhya temple.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, Minister, Guwahati Development Department and the State Tourism Department today announced that the Kamakhya ropeway project has an estimated initial budget of Rs 25 crore that would be finalized after the Assam Tourism Development Corporation floats the tender for the same.

The Guwahati-North Guwahati project being implemented by the GMDA faced roadblocks in the form of objection from the Archaeological Survey of India and unwarranted delays on several pretexts. But, now the project is on track and we are looking forward to starting it from February 2019. Simultaneously, the Kamakhya project's design is complete and within a month we would start working on that, Sarma mentioned.

The minister further added that the State government was vying for a World-Bank aided project for infrastructure development in Assam from the tourism point of view.

We are trying for this project that would concentrate on infrastructure development including, roads, electricity and other amenities, keeping tourism in mind. If materialized, this world-bank aided project would be worth Rs 730 crore, the minister added.
