GUWAHATI, April 24 � The seventh edition of the Cine Art Society Asom (Cine ASA) Guwahati International Film Festival would start with A Cube of Sugar - a film from Iran, directed by Reza Mirkarimi on April 26 at the Rabindra Bhawan here.

To be inaugurated by the cultural councillor of Embassy of Islamic Republic of Iran, Delhi, Md Ali Fouladi, the festival that brings a bouquet of selected films for the cine lovers every year, would continue till May 3.

The Guwahati International Film Festival organized by Cine ASA brings best of cinema from different parts of the world and country as well. This time, a retrospective of films by famous filmmakers Wim Wenders of Germany, Aki Kaurismaki of Finland, and Lars Von Trier of Denmark would be the added attraction of the festival.

Singer Mitali Dey would present a musical programme in the inaugural event that would be followed by the screening of the inaugural film. Preetam Saikia, Commissioner and Secretary, Department of Culture, Government of Assam would be the chief guest of the function, said Sanjib Sabhapandit and Bitopan Borborah, chairman and festival director of the festival organising committee, addressing the media today.

Various segments of the festival would include movies from different countries of the world. Whereas �Fictionally France� segment would have a package of French movies, �German Gems� segment would present a German film package. Similarly, the festival would have a segment called �Latin Marvel� featuring the films from Latin American countries. The �Indian Magic� segment would screen nine films from different parts of the country, which include Bengali films Teen Kahon of Boudhayan Mukherjee, Punashcha of Shouvik Mitra, Samruddhi Porey�s Dr Prakash Baba Amte � The Real Hero (Marathi), among others.

In the �Eastern Panorama� segment, Assamese film Adamya by Bobby Sarma Barua would be screened.

Panel discussions on topics �Current trends in cinema in respect of script and theme�, �State film policy: deterrence and remedies� and �Technological advancement in new cinema and its application in Assam�, would be held on April 27, 29 and 31 respectively.
