Guwahati in control against Tinsukia

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, May 3 - Fancied Guwahati took control against inexperienced Tinsukia in the quarterfinal match of the Nuruddin Trophy Elite Group Senior Inter District Cricket Tournament.

On the opening day of the two-day match at the Assam Cricket Associations Barsapara stadium here today, Guwahati took a solid 143-run first innings lead with six wickets in hand.

Put into bat the visiting team was skittled out for a paltry 80 in 30.3 overs. Showing poor form the Tinsukia batsmen virtually surrendered meekly to the sturdy Guwahati bowling as Mantu Das and Chanakya Sarma chipped in three wickets each.

In reply, riding on a 106-ball 104 by skipper Abhijit Singha Roy, Guwahati smacked up 223 for four in 57 overs at the end of the days play. Hrishikesh Tamuli added 60.

The Tinsukia bowlers hardly could put any impact on the in-form Guwahati batsmen
