Guwahati heading for a big total

GUWAHATI, April 21 - On the opening day of the three-day semifinal match of the Senior Inter District Cricket Tournament for the Nurudin Ahmed Trophy, Guwahati are in a comfortable position scoring 263 for the loss of five wickets in the first innings.

Being asked to bat first the Guwahati batsmen virtually made merry of the Nagaon bowling and gathered a commendable total at the ACA Stadium, Barsapara here today.

Almost all the Guwahati batsmen were among runs as the Nagaon bowlers hardly could put any impact on them. Altogether 74 overs were bowled today and medium pacer Mrinmoy Dutta remained the highest wicket taker with three victims. Dhiraj Goswami and Ashok Kumar Saini took one wicket each.

Brief scores: Guwahati 1st inning 263/5 (Gokul Sharma batting 73, Riyan Parag 72, Tarjinder Singh batting 40, Rahul Hazarika 36, Abhijit Singha Roy 25, Mrinmoy Dutta 3/62).

Day�s play abandoned at Mangaldai: At Mangaldai the opening day�s play of the three-day semifinal between Bongaigaon and Silchar was abandoned due to soggy outfield.
