Guv attends 400th anniversary celebration of Adi Elengee Satra

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, April 14 - Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Wednesday attended the concluding session of the 400th anniversary of Sri Sri Adi Elengee Satra near Bihpuria in Lakhimpur district.

The Governor attended the open session of the final day�s function as the chief guest. The opening session was inaugurated by noted Geeta exponent Poorandar Baruah. A symposium on �The Role of Satras in Social Reform and its duty for the Coming Generation� was held on the occasion.

The symposium was inaugurated by president of Lakhimpur District Satra Mahasabha, Chakradhar Dev Goswami, who is also the Satradhikar of Aanhatguri Satra.

In his address, Governor Purohit said that Satras contribute towards increased faith in religion. He urged everyone to enlighten themselves and others by following the path laid down by Srimanta Sankaradeva in the last 400 years since the foundation of the Satra.

The Governor also mentioned the role of Satradhikars and their responsibilities to check the growing complexities and evils affecting the society. He also promised to appraise the Chief Minister about the problems affecting the Satras.

Earlier on Monday, the 400th anniversary of the foundation of the Sri Sri Adi Elengee Satra began with hoisting of the Dharma Dhwaj by Prof Kamal Chandra Goswami, Satradhikar of the same Satra.
