Gujarat minister visits blood bank in city

GUWAHATI, Nov 21 � Nitinbhai Patel, Health and PWD minister of Gujarat along with his wife and other delegates visited Assam Gujarat Voluntary Blood Bank and Research Centre, Guwahati, on Thursday.

Patel appreciated AGVBBRC�s work towards the well-being of humanity and extended his best wishes for its service. He said that blood was precious for human beings and that there was an urgent need for safe storage and transfusion of blood in a geographically-isolated region like the North-east.

During their visit, Sulochanaben Patel, wife of the minister, and Dr K Sashi Kumar, General Manager, Gujarat Tourism Corporation, also donated their blood, a press release said.

Assam Gujarat Voluntary Blood Bank and Research Centre, Guwahati, was founded in the year 1996, by the Assam Gujarat Charitable Trust. This is the first voluntary blood bank in the North-east.

Till last year, it provided a total of 30104 units of blood, and collected 30,855 units from voluntary donors and as replacement donors.
