GUWAHATI, April 7 - A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the Gauhati University (GU) and the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM), today.
The MoU was signed by Dr Mridul Hazarika, Vice-Chancellor, GU, on behalf of the Gauhati University, and Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor, USTM, on behalf of USTM, in the Office of the Registrar, Gauhati University.
The MoU between GU, the oldest reputed institution of the region, and USTM, an emerging technology university, provides a roadmap in relation to future cooperation between the two varsities.
The collaboration will pave the way for USTM�s Vision-2020, establishing it in the process a university of national repute. All the Deans of various schools, senior professors and higher officials of USTM were present during the event.
Dr Mridul Hazarika, in his remarks, said that USTM is young and full of enthusiasm, and with the exchange of ideas with GU, it would surely excel in the path of academic growth. He also assured that irrespective of the fact that USTM is a young university, the Gauhati University, like an elder brother, would provide all sorts of support and guidance to USTM so that it can achieve academic heights in the future days.
Mahbubul Hoque, in his statement, said, �It is a landmark achievement and opportunity for the USTM community to excel under the patronage of the Gauhati University, which has already made a long journey in the field of academics.�
The MoU provides that the Gauhati University will guide USTM in academic promotion by mentoring and training the faculties, special classes by GU faculties, guidance in university governance, syllabus and examination upgrading, and jointly organizing seminars, workshops, symposia, etc, on specific themes pertaining to the region in particular and national and international issues in general.
In the sphere of research, the Gauhati University will guide USTM in managing the research programmes by jointly guiding the scholars of USTM for quality research in their respective field. The Gauhati University will also guide the faculties in preparing DPR for projects and collaborative activities by taking lead.
The cooperation will also open the doors for the faculties of USTM to go for higher education and research in the Gauhati University. Research and development activities will be enhanced by the able guidance from the eminent senior professors of the Gauhati University.
