GUWAHATI, Aug 6 - The 27th Convocation of Gauhati University will be held on August 8 at BKB Auditorium of the University. The Convocation address will be delivered by Dr Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan, former Chairman, ISRO, as the Chief Guest. Various degrees will be awarded to more than six hundred successful students of the University in the Convocation.
The Executive Council of Gauhati University has decided to confer upon the honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters to Dr Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan, eminent space scientist and Dr Sarbeswar Sahariah, renowned nephrologist and renal surgeon while honorary Degree of Doctor of Philosophy will be conferred upon Neel Pawan Baruah, renowned artist. Late Sukracharjya Rabha, renowned theatre personality of Assam will also be conferred honorary degree of Doctor of Philosophy posthumously.
As a prelude to the event, Gauhati University is also organizing a Public Lecture on the theme �The Multiple Dimensions of India�s Space Endeavour� which will be delivered by Dr Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan tomorrow at BKB Auditorium of the University.
It is also informed that, in the Convocation, Mahamahopadhyaya Biswanarayan Shastri Gold Medal instituted by Gauhati University with the support from the family members of Dr Biswanarayan Shastri, renowned Sanskrit scholar and writer, will be presented to the student who secured the highest marks in Sanskrit in Post-Graduate Examinations of 2017 from Gauhati University.
