GTC rally to hold ASEB SC 1-1

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 16 - Gauhati Town Club (GTC) snatched a vital point holding ASEB Sports Club 1-1 in todays match of the RG Baruah Super Division Football League.

After a listless first session both the teams netted one goal each after the break. ASEB marched ahead in the 51st minute when substitute Jwmbla Brahma toed home studying the situation well. ASEB skipper Sanjoy Boro initiated a move from the middle and passed the ball to Jessy Vanlalmuana who found Jwmbla at the top of the box. Seeing a crowded GTC defence infront the tricky striker toed the ball into the goal giving no time to the opponent players to deflect it.

GTC veteran Sanjiba Rongpi, who came into the ground in the later part of the match, read a Olaniran cross from the left flank perfectly and beat the opponent goalkeeper Daoga Brahma with a feeble but well placed volley in the 87th minute.

The first session went dry as the ball mostly confined in the mid field. No well planned move was seen during the first 45 minutes and players of both the teams were totally off coloured.

But life returned to the game in the second session as both the teams adopted attacking tactics. Several goal bound moves were seen from either sides.

For ASEB Rahul Das, Jessy, Jwmbla, Sanjoy tried heart out for creating openings at the GTC fort. But due to some good goal keeping by Amit Lodh and timely anticipation by GTC defenders all their attempts were foiled.

GTCs Nigerian frontliners Olaniram and Faniyan Olanrewatu looked dangerous in the ASEB striking zone as they made repeated forays into the goal area. Young Visal Kumar Sunar provided ample support to the GTC attackers.

With todays draw, ASEB has collected 12 points from seven matches in the preliminary round while Town finished their preliminary round with 7 points.

Todays matches: FCI vs Sunrise (Super Div); Maharana vs SAI (A Div).
